Figure Drawings
Academic figure drawing has played an interesting role in the development of my current work. With the exception of the 1997 exhibit at Po Gallery, I had not generally made figuration a focus in my work. Despite this, over the years I worked hard to master figuration, in part because I recognized its value when I was applying for adjunct teaching work. About 12 years ago, when I discovered how figurative elements could transform my narrative work, my understanding of the human form eased the transition. Here are some examples of the academic figure drawings I’ve produced over the years.
